Revelation 4 (Friday)

Hello guys and welcome back to impact blog!  Today we are doing Chapter 4 of Revelation.  Chapter 4 begins what is to come after this or the future.

After the angel stopped talking, John looked up and saw an open door to heaven.  A voice tells him to come up and instantly he was in the spirit.  He sees a throne with someone on it. Verse 3 describes him as “The one sitting there was as beautiful as precious stones, like jasper and carnelian. All around the throne was a rainbow with clear colors like an emerald.”  Around the throne were 24 thrones with 24 elders sitting on them.  The Throne had thunder and lightning come out of it.  In front of the throne were 7 lamps that were the seven spirits of God and a sea of what looked like crystal clear glass.

Let’s step back for a moment.  John is in heaven trying to understand and put into words everything he sees.  This is a difficult task to try and capture and understand the glory of God and heaven and then writing it in a way that makes sense so that we too could understand.  The next thing is… well… just plain weird.

Verses 6b-8 describes 4 beasts.  “In front of the throne and on each side of it there were four living beings. They had eyes all over them, in front and in back. The first living being was like a lion. The second was like a bull. The third had a face like a man. The fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of these four living beings had six wings. They were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day and night they never stopped saying, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!"”  The beasts were glorifying the one who sits on the throne and every time they did, the twenty four elders bow down to the one who sits on the throne and the put their crowns down in front of them and said, verse 11 "Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created."  

This is difficult to wrap your brain around, I know, but this is what John saw in heaven.  What the beasts were, or why they had six wings or why they had a bazzilion eyeballs, we may never know until we die.
