Philippians 2

Philippians 2 is a really great chapter because it builds on Philippians 1. Yesterday Jackie was talking about how she thought obeying God, pleases Him.
Philippians 2:13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey Him and the power to do what pleases Him.
This verse proved she is right. Also I usually have the desire to obey God, but not the power to carry it out. V. 12 and 13 make me think that the more I obey God the more I'll be able to do it again.
Philippians 2:14 Do all things without complaining or grumbling.
This verse has had a big impact on my life because when I was little, I had to right it 100 times if I complained about a chore.
Now it helps me not complain or at least keep the complaints in my head.
Philippians 2:15 So that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people let you lives shine brightly before them.
I am trying my best to not do anything that will hurt my testimony for God. Billy Graham has been good about this and he will leave an unscathed legacy for God. Actions speak louder then words. If are living an upright joyful and peaceful life, without using bad worldly things to find that joy and peace, your testimony can be proof of your faith in the Lord.

I loved this chapter. I found so many things I wanted to write about but chose my two favorites. The first verse is Philippians 2:3

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves"
This is a verse I really need to work on because I might do something and from the outside it appears that I am doing it for all the right reasons but sometimes I'm honestly just being "selfish... or vain." I definitely need to work on trying to praise God and do His will with more humility and put the people around me ahead of myself.

The second verse that I chose is Philippians 2:5, "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus"
When dealing with others we need to treat them like Jesus would treat them. I know I get frustrated or impatient with people or my siblings but if I would try to be more like Jesus would be if He was dealing with them then that wouldn't be a problem. I need to truly forgive like Jesus forgives and have the patience Jesus has with me every day. Taylor rayborn

I like this whole verse because it says that if you do the right things you will be blameless.

A few things really stuck out to me when I was reading today.

I liked verses 3-4, 14 and 15.

Verses 3-4:
Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, think of others as better than yourself. (4) Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others too. (NLT)

I like these versed because they talk about how we should be thinking about others. We can't just worry about our selves. We also can't think that we are better than anyone because we are all the same! We are ALL sinners. That's why Jesus came, so he could die for ALL of us.

Verse 14:
Do everything without complaining and arguing, (NLT)

This can be really hard sometimes. Especially if what you are doing is a chore or some kind of assignment. You just want to say: "Oh its so hard, why do we even have to do this?" Or like what I say sometimes in my marketing class: "Why do we even have to do all these questions? It's not like he is going to collect it?" That is not how we should act; because we should do everything we can to please God. Well if we are being really negative about the situation we are in it's going to be really hard for God to get through to us and show us what we need to be doing.

Verse 15:
so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (NLT)

I like this verse because it tells you that you should be a light in this world. It then ties back into verse 14 because how can you shine bright if you never do anything with Joy?

I also really liked what Taylor said about treating others like they are Jesus. I know that that can be really hard sometimes, epically when the person is annoying. But we have to remember this because that is what Jesus would do.

I loved this chapter! I hilighted most pf the chapter but here a a few of my favorite verses.

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourself.(verse 3 ESV)
I love this verse!! I liked what you said Taylor. I also struggle with that. I'm working on valuing others and their oppinions more than what i want.

Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blamless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so tht in the day of Christ I may be proud that I didn't run in vain or labor in vain. (Verses 14-16 ESV)

I find it hard to always do things without complaining but this verse helped me a lot growing up. These verses also point out that we are lights to the world. We should try to live as Christ so that others who don't know Him can see His love and forgiveness.

Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him, but on me also, lest i should have sorrow upon sorrow. (Verse 27 ESV)

I really liked this verse. It shows how God doesn't want us to always be struggling and sad. Although God wants us to be happy He may allow bad things to happen ( like Timothy getting sick) to help someone else grow in their faith with Him.~abby<3

I have to agree with Abby, I also highlighted most of the page too, because it just tells us how we need to be and shows examples of how we should be. Like being kind and loving just as the Holy Spirit was, serving others instead of yourself like Timothy, and a messenger of God's word. These are the three main examples in this chapter that I found, but there are a lot more in the bible!

3Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Jesus was able to humble Himself so nothing should be an excuse to why we can't humble ourselves.
