1 Corinthians 2

Today we are reading 1 Corinthians chapter 2!

My favorite verses were 4 -5 and 6-9

Verses 4-5 says, "and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." (ESV)
I like this verse a lot because it shows how humble Paul is. He is telling his readers that because he is giving information to them, they shouldn't put their faith in him. Instead of putting faith in him, they should put their faith in God because He is the one who is REALY speaking to you when you read this.

Verses 6-9 says, "Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him" (ESV)
This verse is saying that popular, rich, or famous people will eventually pass away, and when it says we impart a "secret and hidden wisdom of God", that means we have faith in God. In verses 8-9 it says the rulers (rich or famous people in our age) don't know about God, but He will open their eyes, ears, and hearts so that He will give them a chance to find Him.

Paul was a strong man to survive shipwrescks flogging a and stonings. However,
I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. (1 Corinthians 2:3 NLT)
Just like in chapter 1 how it said the weakness of God is stronger than man. Paul came appearing as weak as possible so no one could say, "wow that guys amazing!" They couldn't help but look beyond Paul and see God because no one so weak can preform signs and speak messages like Paul did without God. We need to show people when we tell them about Christ that we too were sinners worthy of death, but God saved and rescued us.

I really like what both Brian and Nathan said! You guys said some really cool things! :)

Today when I was reading 2 things really stood out to me.

Verses 11-12:
(11)No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit, and no one can know God's thoughts except God's own spirit. (12)And we have received God's spirit (not the worlds spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. (NLT).

These verses talk about how only God really knows us. He can see everything about us. He can see and he knows things about us that we don't even know. Then it says that because of God's spirit we know all the wonderful things he has done.

Verse 16:
For,
"who can know the Lord's thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?"
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. (NLT)

This verse reminds me of something that we read in English class yesterday. We were reading about the Greek creation story and it talked about the Greek gods and goddesses. As a class we came to the conclusion that the Greeks thought of themselves as just as good as their gods. This is because there are many stories of the gods messing up and sinning so they thought of themselves as just as good. This verse says: "Who knows enough to teach him?" This is talking about how none of us are good enough to question god. As Christians we know that God is greater than us and that he is perfect! We know that he can't sin and that we are not worthy to stand in his presents. It's really interesting how the Greeks thought and see how different it is for how we think today!
