John 11

John 11. We are more than halfway through John. I have grown so  much in my Christian faith in God. through this time we spend with God. Doing this as a church group helps a lot because when we all share what we learned, we learn from everyone. Way to go for those of you that are sticking with this. John 11 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible now! You guys are such an amazing high school group. I have never gotten another group to read through the Bible like this, and even if I did they wouldn't enjoy it as much as you guys do. Keep up the great work! He who honors God, God will honor him.(1 Samuel 2:30) I can't wait to see what you God reveals to us today!

Today I verse 4 really stuck out to me. It said Lazarus' illness didn't lead to death, but Lazarus did die from it. As I read the chapter though I saw that his illness ultimately lead to new life from Jesus. Sometimes we go through trials and we think why did Jesus do this? What could possibly glorify Him about me making bad grades or losing the race? On Sunday in high school we talked about times when God does strange things that if they didn't happen, then we might not have gotten an oppurtunity to do something for Him. That happened to me a bunch yesterday. So know that when bad things happen God always has a plan and a purpose.

In v. 27 I was amazed at Martha's faith because she had seen the same miracles Jesus had done as everyone else, but she was the only one that believed Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead. All Christians have the same Bible, so we all have the potential to hear the same stuff from God. We need to be like Martha in that we are the ones that take our faith in God to the next level. Always trusting Him. Thats what I learned today in John 11

John 11:35, and Jesus wept. Although this is the shortest verse in the Bible i find it one of the most impactful. This verse reminds me that although Jesus was God, he was also human. I seem to forget that Jesus was truly human because he was perfect. I am so thankful that God sent his son to live as a human and to die as our savior!!!~ abby<3

John 11:4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” This verse really stood out to me because when tough things happen my faith grows. Whenever I look back on my hardships I praise God for them because before bad things would happen my faith was small and after my faith grew tremendously. So always keep in mind God has a plan for you and his plan is perfect. ALWAYS!!!

I really love what everyone has to say. I really liked what you said Nathan about how something like getting bad grades or loosing a race could glorify God. How does that happen? We just have to remember that God is always in control. This is kinda like what you said Maria, about how God is always in control and we just need to trust him. Abby I love what you said about Jesus being human. I know that it is easy to forget that he was because he was so perfect.

Today when I was reading John 11 this verse really stuck out to me: Jesus replied, "there are twelve hours of daylight everyday. During the day people can walk safely. They can see because they have the light of the world. (John 11:9) I think that it is very interesting that there are twelve hours of daylight. So maybe he was trying to say that the twelve of you, (meaning his disciples) have the light in you and with you so they will be okay. Also Jesus might have been saying that what ever happens he can handle it they just have to trust him.
Another verse that I liked was verse 25: Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live even after dying." I think that Jesus is defiantly talking about eternal life.

After reading this I wanted to really make sure that I was living my life the way God would want me to. Also I wanted to make sure that everything I did that day was done the way God would want me to do things, and that I would represent Him in a good way.

Soooo true! I completely missed that verse I'm glad you pointed it out.

Amen! Nothing of Jesus ends in death. Our eternal life BEGINS with death!

That's so cool! Jesus probably dd refer to the disciples as the 12 hours of light!

verse 17 grabbed my attention. it says how Jesus waited four days to resurrect Lazarus. this verse made me think because I was wondering why He would wait four days to resurrect him. I think he did that because he needed to wait for more people to witness the resurrection. At the time, there was probably not as much people as he wanted there to be at the tomb. Also in verse 41 and 42 Jesus was talking to God. He asked God that the people standing around him would believe Jesus is the Messiah after they see this miracle. Then he raised Lazarus from the dead. The reason I also mentioned these 2 verses is because you can tell that Jesus wanted people watching Him during the miracle. These 2 verses also helped me with my question because when I read it, it made me think that God wanted lots of people watching him.

I like to notice the odd things that most people overlook. After the resurrection of Lazerus, a bunch of the people went running to the Pharisees and the high priest, Caiaphas, to tell them about this. Watch Caiaphas's reaction-- he's unknowingly prophesies the crucifixion of Christ. He says it's better for one man to die than for the whole nation to be destroyed. He felt so threatened by the people's willingness to believe in Christ over the authority of the Pharisees and Saducies.

Another note about Caiafas being a Saducie. Saducies were different from the Pharisees. Pharisees believed in an afterlife, but Saducees did not. So for Caiafas to hear about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead after 4 days was going against everything he believed. His belief system of no afterlife was another obstacle to seeing Jesus as the Messiah.

Lots of people think Jesus waited for days to make sure Lazarus was dead, but I think you're right because drawing a crowd makes more since. Chapter 12 talks so much about how Lazarus drew a crowd for Jesus even after he was raised.

Wow I never knew Ciaphas was a Saducee! That makes the fact that God phrophesied the crucifixion of Christ through him even more amazing!
