John 16

We are on John 16 today! John 16 is a really interesting chapter  because Jesus stops speaking in parables. He plainly tells the disciples who He is, and teaches about prayer and the Holy Spirit. Finally, in this chapter this chapter the disciples start to understand who Jesus is and what He is doing. I was reading in a serendipity Bible today and I found these questions helpful for my Bible reading. I am going to list them so that you guys can use them too.

What are the disciples feeling now?

What is their grief keeping them from understanding? (v.17)

What three things will the Holy Spirit do? (v. 8-11)

What peace does Jesus offer? (V.33)

Those are some of the questions from a serendipity Bible. You don't need to answer them, but you will know the answers of you read the chapter slowly and think about it. Have a great day Impact church! Keep up the great job on the Bible reading plan!

John 16:33, i have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; i have overcome the world.
This verse really spoke to me today. It reminds me that no matter what i'm facing i can find rest in Christ even though i will face hard things and suffer in this world. But i know that i'm not alone and will have help from the Lord if i go to Him because He has overcome this world!!!!!!
John 16:23, On that day, you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, i say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
This verse also stuck out to me. I used to ask God for things to happen the way i wanted them to and was frustrated when they didn't because i didn't fully understand this verse. I was reading this chapter a few months ago and interpreted it that whatever you ask God for in Jesus' name he will give you but then two months ago i was reading james 4:3 here is what it says, You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
This verse showed me that i was asking God for want i wanted like a good grade or a part in dance but not asking Him if it was in His will. Sometimes i still struggle with this but will try to only ask for things to happen if they are in His will. ~ abby<3

Verse: John 16:21-22 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

This verse reminds me that this world we live in is painful, and yes we will suffer. If we stay with God through the storm we will be joyful. Also you can remember this like a tree. In the winter leaves fall off and it looks sad (storm), but once spring comes leaves bloom (our faith) and the tree that looked dead becomes alive and now seems joyful (after the storm is over). Also we should look forward to go to heaven, its a place of happiness and you will never need anything again.

Abby I also liked John 16:33! I also love what you said about how you ask God for something. You did a really great job of explaining it! Now I have a good idea of how to ask God for things. ;)
I also like what you said Maria about sticking with God, then the storm will not be that bad.

Today when I was reading 2 verse really stuck out to me. The first one was verse 33: "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." To me this verse meant that its going to be really hard sometimes for us. It might also be hard to stand up for what is right. We just have to remember that God is there for us and he has already overcome the world.

I also verse 6: Instead you grieve because of what I've told you. This verse reminded me that sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own little world that we forget that other people might need us. Or we just forget that maybe we should be doing something to glorify God instead of showing our selves off.

Maria I love what you said about verse 21-22. You summed up exactly what Jesus said. What I thought was really cool about that section was how Jesus know the disciples were going to ask Him a question, and before they even asked Him, He answered it. Verse 19 "Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, 'Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, "A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me"?'" It's so cool that even before you come to ask God of something, He already knows what you are going to say. But it is still important that don't assume He already knows and we pray to Him so we can develop a relationship with Him.

Verse 7:"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you." This verse really made me think. Sometimes I wondered how much easier it would be to get answers and develop a relationship with God if only Jesus was here with me. But Jesus told us "it is to your [our] advantage that I go away". WHAT! How can Jesus leaving be a good thing? This made me realize how powerful the Helper or the Holy Spirit is. If Jesus said it is to our advantage the Helper comes to us, then the Holy Spirit must be really powerful.
