John 17

John 17 Is a really interesting chapter. In it Jesus does two things. He prays for His disciples, Then He prays for US. It is so amazing to know that Jesus left a prayer He said for people now-a-days in His Word. His prayer really only had one thing in it.

John 17:20-21 I am praying not only for these disciples, but also for all who will ever believe in me because of their testimony. My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father-that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me.

The one thing that Jesus prayed for us is that we may be united as one. I think that as a high school group we are doing good in this because we are almost all united in this Bible study. As you can see John 17 is a really great chapter  and you guys will enjoy reading it.

I really liked those verses Nathan. It's really awesome that Jesus, who live 2000 years ago, was thinking of us.

Verse 3 stuck out to me this morning. "And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." The NLT puts it as "And this is the way to have eternal life..." A lot of times it's easy to get caught up in thinking of our salvation as determined by our good works. But Jesus here clears the air and says all you need for eternal life, is to know Him and God. Nothing else.

I also thought verse 12 was interesting. "While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled." This means Jesus guarded all of the the disciples from losing their faith except Judas (the son of destruction) to fulfill the Scripture. I've always wondered about Judas and to me, this verse tells me he was clearly not.

Today when I was reading Verses 3-5 really stuck out to me.
(3) And this is the way to have eternal life - to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. (4) I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. (5) Now Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
In these verses Jesus talked about how we will reach eternal life. These verses also talk about how our goal as Christians should be to bring people to God. We also should want to bring people to God so that they can go to heaven to be with him. These verse also say that once we have done this we can be with God and so can the people we brought to him.

Today John 17:6 really stuck out to me. It says; " i have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word."
I found the first sentence of this verse interesting because it points out that God knew who to put in Jesus' life that would accept His teachings as truth and tell everyone the good news. It also shows that God knew that Judas would give Jesus up. In short God knows everything we can't hide anything from Him!!!!! ~abby<3

Verse: John 17:24
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

I really loved this verse because it reminds me that Jesus was in the world we live in and he did suffer just like us. Its sad to see that people in this world want to feel like their wanted, and loved. They can! Jesus talks about wanting you and I in this verse also its talks about God wanting Jesus even before the creation of the world. I love this verse it makes me feel happy to know that when I die their we be an even greater place and love in heaven!
