1 Corinthians 14

Today we are reading 1 Corinthians 14 and today we also have our youth group meeting at 6:30. Hope we'll see everyone there!
Chapter 14 talked all about speaking in tongues. It also gave the rules for it, which are my favorite verses in.
Verse 2 and verses 27 - 28

Verse 2 (2) For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. (ESV)
This verse is telling people that when you speak in tongues, you should not be doing it for people so that you can boast about it, but instead do it for God. Speaking in tongues is between you and God, not others.

The other verses I liked were 27 - 28 (27) If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. (28) But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. (ESV)
In this chapter it talks a lot about needing an interpreter for speaking in tongues. These verses, it talks about this. It says there always need to be someone to interpret when someone speaks in tongues, and if not, they should not speak in tongues at all.
I thought these verses were interesting because once I saw someone speak in tongues and when he did, he was not following the rules in 1 Corinthians Chapter 14. He did not have an interpreter (like it explains in verse 27 and 28), and I felt like he was doing it to impress people around him. These verses made me realize that when he was speaking in tongues, he was not following God's rules.

Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:1 NLT)

The LORD wouldn't tell us to desire these gifts unless He will give them to us. It would be really awesome to be able to use these to glorify God. So I'm going to pray that the Holy Spirit will come upon Impact and will give us these gifts so we can glorify Him and strengthen each other.

If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. (1 Corinthians 14:37, 38 ESV)

I like these verses because they tell us that if we recognize God's word, we are a true follower of God, and if we don't, then we need to ask God to help us to understand his words and laws, and to interpret the lesson that Gid is trying to teach them.

I liked verse 2 because it talks about how when you speek in toungs you are not speeking to others, you are speaking straight to god.
